Finally, the Airbus project is finished and has gone into production mode.
It has been the most COMPLICATED projects ever and i hope that it works fine. It made me realise a few things.
1) Knowing your stuff is very important. Being well-versed in the business process will help you 10x more than any course that you can take
2) It is WHO you know and not WHAT you know. Thankfully, WHO i know thinks that i am capable and WHAT i know proves that too.
3) Must be firm in what i think is best for my system and ultimately, for myself
4) When a project / process is complex, it is important to break it down into individual parts and analyse
5) Being organised is important
6) If i don’t know / understand, i must ask. It helped me a lot to understand a lot of things because i asked a lot of questions
7) A picture is worth a thousand words
On the last day of 2008, my boss gave me a work appraisal for 2008. Well, the results were better than i expected.
I was given OUTSTANDING for my overall work performance and in the individual items like knowledge of work process etc etc, i got Very Good for most of them and had Outstanding for 2 items. So at the end of the appraisal, i was told that i was being lined up for a promotion.
Usually, i will be doing cartwheels round the house, drinking myself silly in celebration but it was not the case. I just smiled and thanked him for his high praises bcos he also informed me that there will be a pay increament freeze !
NABEH.. KNNCCB.. When i get promoted, there is a pay freeze. Wah liew. Usually promotion + pay increament will be about 6% – 10% but i get nothing :’(. He said that my big boss will fight for me for the pay increament but he cannot promise anything.
And the worst part of it, he also told me that there might not be variable bonus this year too !!! Wah LAU !!!! *bang head on table*
Wow, I just had my confirmation review and it was damn good. Out of a score of 85, i got a score of 70 which put me in the “excellent” range.
My boss is really impressed by my performance and has recommended that i move on to the next level which means that i should be getting a promotion next year. But the hierarchy is a bit strange here..
It starts from Information Analyst -> Senior Information Analyst -> System Analyst -> Senior System Analyst -> Asst Manager -> Manager
So now, I am currently a Senior Information Analyst so it seems my next step will be a System Analyst *rolleyes*.. Sound likes a demotion.. Hahahahah.. Oh well, we will just see how it goes. Hopefully, this is a sign of better things to come…
… Promotion = Higher pay ?
Hmmm, seems that going to Robinsons was a blessing in disguise after all. Although it was torturous but i had a good mentor who taught me quite a number of things about working hard and smart. I guess she helped me to develop me into a more all-rounded, efficient worker.
And it does help that my family life is stable and i have something to look forward soon.
So far so good. Starting to get the hang of my job.
Just roll-out a new warehouse program for a new customer and everything went smoothly.
Learning a lot of new things which will put me in good stead for my future jobs.. Hahahah..
Well,
The first week of work has come and go. It was a brain-draining experience and even though it was interesting, i was still goddamn tired.. Maybe i jumped into this new job too fast w/o even resting enough. Guess that Robinsons really drained me totally. Hahhaha..
Anyway, it is scary how well Pat knows me. I just say a bit of things here and there and she could picked up how i was feeling about this job. Muerhahahha. Oh well, it is up to me to adapt quickly and get used to everything. Good thing is that after the stint in Robinsons, i have learned to open my mouth and ask for help and guidance so i might adapt quicker than expected. I am trying my best to absorb as much as i can so i can be “useful” in the company and try to make a name for myself.
Another good news for me is that it is confirmed that we will be moving back to Changi South so my travelling time will be cut by at least 1/2.
Tired long day. I spent the entire day in the workshop with our new customer and it was an eye-opening experience.
In my previous experiences, gathering requirements have always been an IT affair and it is a pretty small thing but in my new coy, it had about 30 ppl involved from different business units from both companies. In one way, it is good bcos all the business units can align the business process in a single session and everyone is on the same track.
However, there is a bad news. My asst mgr will be going on leave next week and i will be left all alone. Moreover i have not been to my own office yet so i don’t even know where my seat is !!! But the bad news is that my Head Of IT is leaving the company and that is a blow to me. One of the reasons that i took up this job was bcos of the Head Of IT’s mentality and mode of thinking. I thought that it would be interesting to work with a boss whose ideas is very similar to mine.
Oh well, just see how things goes bah..
